Are you following the climate change conversations but not sure how you can make an impact? It’s easy to read up on the facts and figures and immediately become overwhelmed by the conversation. Most news cycles focus heavily on policy and regulation, which certainly have their place. However, as individuals, we have the ability to make a difference with the choices we make every day.
Sometimes we can get so caught up in the big changes that need to happen in policy and regulation that we forget about the small changes we can make to have an impact on the earth. Here are a couple of examples of what happens when you make the choice to live sustainably:
- When you choose to recycle, you help to reduce the need to extract, refine and process raw materials, and simultaneously help to reduce air and water pollution.
- When you choose to conserve water, you save energy and preserve fuel resources.
- When you buy a product from an environmentally responsible company, you are supporting brands that are being responsible stewards of our environment.
It’s easy to slip into the thinking that your individual lifestyle changes don’t make a difference, but if everybody makes these small changes, we can have a positive effect on the environment.
In the same way that a number of poor choices, big and small, have been extremely detrimental to our environment, a compilation of positive choices has the potential to make a positive impact on the current circumstances.
When you choose the environmentally responsible option, you are making a difference. When we all make these environmentally positive choices, collectively, we can make a massive positive impact.
